Monument have been supplying product to Australia for more than 50 years including the traditional Copper pipe cutters 264Y 3-28mm Size 0, 265B 4-28mm Size 1 and 266E 12-43mm Size2A  Other Copper pipe cutters include the 300M 3-22mm Semi-Auto and the 1/2in. and 3/4in. plastic bodied Auto Copper Pipe Cutters.

The product range in Australia has also included the professional 462A 3/4in and 7/8in. and 451S 3/4in and 7/8in DIY Tap Reseaters. All these products are Made in Britain by Monument Tools.

More recently Monument have launched the Monument Autocut Copper Pipe Cutters for 1/2in. 3/4in. and since the Australian Monument Masters group a 1in. version. The 1/2in and 3/4in version can be used in conjunction with the Restricted Access Handles 15R (for 1/2in.) and 22R (for 3/4in),. These Restricted Access Handles also fit the 1/2in and 3/4in plastic bodied copper pipe cutters. Spare Wheels for these products are available as Monument code 292H. This wheel fits the 17127U 1/2in. Monument Autocut.,the 17290M 3/4in Monument Autocut as well as the 17254P 1in Autocut.

2018 Additions to the range for Plumbers Choice

New additions for 2018 are the Monument Adjustable Basin Wrench 345V and Grip+ fittings as well as the 2359Y Gold OMAPP Soldering and Brazing Mat – a unique wrap around soldering mat – all #MadeInBritain.

The Monument range in Australia is packaged in blister packs allowing the products to be displayed in #TradeOnly Plumbers Choice.

Drainage Products

Monument also supply drainage products to Australia including aluminium, nylon, rubber and canvas drain plugs and air bags as well as #MadeInBritain traditional Force Cups and Coopers Plungers. Monument also manufacture a Drain Air Test Kit 174Z and supply drain dye for testing drains.

Sheet Lead Roofing Products

Monument have recently designed and manufactured a new range of tools for Sheet Lead Roofing. These include plastic, perfect for Australia due to restrictions on wood imports, dressers, bending, bossing and setting-in sticks. Also in this range are plastic bossing mallets, chase wedges and some other unique sheet lead tools.

When Monument started trading with Plumbers Choice it was clear that they had a great relationship with their #TradeOnly customers. As part of the strategy of Monument is to engage with and understand the needs of trade end users it seemed sensible to set up Monument Masters in Australia. Monument Masters in the UK has groups in London, Birmingham and Leeds and meet several times a year to discuss the product and purchasing requirements of the trade. This gives Monument feedback on the design, marketing activity and preferences of routes to market for the trade.
The first meeting in Australia of Monument Masters Australia provided some great insights into the Australian market and has already created a 1in. Monument Autocut Copper Pipe Cutter as a requirement for the market in Australia.

Monument’s association with the Australian market goes back to the 1930s. In the 1960s most orders were indents placed on us by a selling agent in Sydney. Orders shipped directly to clients who were based in the main cities. These included such names as FH Prager, Blackwoods, McPhersons, John Danks and ET Bridgland in Adelaide.

Eventually the commission agent retired and we then shipped directly to one outlet only Nelson & Co Pty Ltd owned by RW Bruce Reid. This lasted for a good number of years until Mr Reid sold the business and retired to an office from which he ran tourist pleasure boats in Sydney Harbour. Losing Nelson was the end of the era of European manufacturers dominating the market. From then on it became difficult due to the rise of the Asian rim producers whose material and labour costs were very low compared to Europe and the USA. However Monument did retain its presence to a lesser degree through Haron International in Melbourne.

The new distributor Plumbers Choice was chosen based on their support of quality trade products being sold only to professional tradespeople. 

Monument has always had a natural affiliation with the Australian and New Zealand markets and both countries are now at the top of its export efforts. John Collier, Chairman of Monument Tools, who has an collection of old tools, found a Shetack Sheet Saw manufactured in the 1920s, in an antique centre in the state of Victoria. This Shetack Sheet Saw shows the Australian patent number obtained in the mid 1920s, which is actually before Monument was established in 1932.

Monument’s aim is to make it 100 continuous years of selling to the Australian market and beyond!
